Who would have expected that the "humble" walnuts would be served somewhere other than the delicious walnut pie? In addition to helping with insomnia and concentration, as everything shows, they also fight the urge to eat. More specifically, according to a study published in the journal Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, this nut affects the way the brain controls this sensation. As part of the research, participants, who were considered medically overweight, visited the research center twice for five days. The first time, they drank a smoothie, which contained 48 gr. nuts, while the next one different, which had similar taste and nutrients but did not contain nuts. Then showed the participants fast food pictures such as burgers and cakes. With a special test, they found that those who drank the smoothie with walnuts showed greater activity in the area of the brain, which is related to personal control.
"We know there is no doubt about the results of the study. "When participants eat nuts, this part of their brain flashes and we know it depends on whether they feel more or less hungry," said lead researcher Christos Mantzoros, MD, PhD, according to Science Daily.
